Meet the Team

John Tse and Bill Janovitz

John Tse and Bill Janovitz

We are the number one real estate team in Lexington and work in all surrounding towns, averaging around $30 million in sales annually. We work as seller and buyer agents, marketing, showing, and selling all styles of houses and condos. The focus on this web site is to tell the story of the area’s mid-century modern/modernist heritage, which we have been doing regularly since around 2005. And we specialize in marketing this architecture, but our marketing and buyer services are top-notch for all homes, with 30 years of combined experience in Boston-area real estate. You can see a blog about some of the more traditional homes and neighborhoods at Also, check out our Facebook Page for updates. Our bios are located below on this page.

After more than 25 long, hard, years as a home inspector, I’d estimate that I’ve worked with tens of thousands of real estate agents. I might even know a couple hundred agents or so well enough to offer a general opinion about their work.  Given that, there are just a very small handful of agents I would ever endorse or recommend. However, if someone I cared about were looking for a home in the Lexington area, I’d tell them Bill Janovitz and John Tse is the very first phone call they should make. I’ve watched them save their clients thousands of dollars in nearly every transaction we’ve both been party to.  Anyone can sell a house, but Bill and John’s experience earns his client’s real dollars that are spendable elsewhere. The truth is that in greater Lexington, you can either work with Bill and John or compete against someone who did.  I’m not inspecting homes anymore, but if someone I cared about were interested in a Lexington-area property, I’d tell them to call Bill and John first. Period.  – Jim M.

I wanted to write to say thank you once again. As 2012 ends, I am so glad all my moving is over, and I thank you for being so helpful in this whole process. While I plan not to need your services again soon, I will certainly continue to recommend you. – Julie D. 2013 May we suggest that you consider Janovitz & Tse as your broker.  They have a proven record with regard to modern architecture and are now, as you know, familiar with Henry B. Hoover’s work.  In addition, they handled the Flansburgh house in Lincoln, which, like the Hoover family house, is within Historic New England’s Stewardship Program…. a sympathetic, knowledgeable buyer is what is hoped for.  We think Janovitz & Tse should be able to bring that buyer to you as they did for us. – Henry Hoover. Jr. and Lucretia Hoover Giese 2015.

About Bill Janovitz

A resident of Lexington since 1994, it was a mix of the town’s lifestyle and architecture that drew Bill to real estate as a second career in 2001, via the DeWolfe brokerage (later bought out by Coldwell Banker). Bill graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1989. The band that he had started with some school friends was already signed to a record label, so they decided to ride that wave. 10 years and six or seven records later, Buffalo Tom were well established as international recording and touring artists. But as they reached their 30s, it was also time to settle down a bit. They still play and record music to this day, however, 25 years later. Bill has always loved the area as a respite from the road, while only being a 20-minute drive into Cambridge and Boston. But as the kids started arriving, he also came to appreciate the great schools for which the town has long had a well-deserved reputation. He also has nurtured an interest in the town’s wide range of significant historic architecture, from colonial-era Saltboxes, to the pioneering mid-century modernism of the Six Moon Hill, Peacock Farm, and Five Fields neighborhoods. In 2005, Bill formed a listing and marketing partnership with John Tse at Hammond Residential Real Estate. As of December, 2012, the partners are honored to be part of William Raveis Real Estate. As a listing and marketing team, they are number one in Lexington (based on closed sales for 2010). Janovitz and Tse list and sell in most western suburbs and cities, from Cambridge outward along Routes 2 and 128. The team is also pleased that they have also become regarded as the top specialists for mid-century-modernist houses in Boston’s western suburbs. In fact, they receive calls from sellers of these homes from all over the state and from interested buyers literally from around the world. But they are well-versed in all architectural styles and price ranges, from modest capes to new construction. Bill’s extracurricular interests include music (naturally), and he is a published author (The Rolling Stones: Exile on Main Street, Continuum Books [2004]; It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll: 50 Tracks That Tell the Story of the Rolling Stones, St. Martin’s Press [2013]). A love of literature, film, time with his family, and cycling (loves the Minuteman Bikeway that runs the entire length of Lexington). Bill writes a blog about real estate for Boston Magazine’s revamped “Boston Daily” web site. Bill is deeply involved as a founder and current board member of the 11-year-running Hot Stove Cool Music benefit for the Foundation To Be Named Later (part of the Red Sox Foundation). Hosted by Baseball Hall of Famer, Peter Gammons; Red Sox General Manager, Theo Epstein; and actor, Mike O’Malley, this highly successful event has contributed many hundreds of thousands of dollars yearly to local youth and homeless-related services such as the Home for Little Wanderers, Horizons for Homeless Children, and the Red Sox Scholars.
